Splash Damage: How I Stopped Fighting and Learned to Love the Mortars

When it comes to Clash of Clans game strategies, you will no doubt find a great deal that focus on wall layout and positioning. This is all and good, but a wall alone won’t stop your village from being over run. What you will need is some protection. What you will need, are mortars.

There are many different ways to inflict damage on invaders. One way, which oddly enough is often passed over, is splash damage. So, why should you focus on splash damage when it comes to Clash of Clans? Lets find out

What Is Splash Damage Designed For?

In Clash of Clans, splash damage is your first and best defense when you are pitted against large infantry attacks. These can happen quite frequently, and if you are not prepared, you will suffer accordingly.

Setting It Up

The best thing you can do is to set up your splash damage so that it will work effectively against your enemies. The best way to do this is to have your walls funnel enemies into close proximity with one another as they approach. You will want to place your slash damage buildings close to these points so that they have plenty of time to fire.

What Kinds of Splash Damage are There?

The two kinds of splash damage that you have are mortars, and then later Wizard Towers. A fully upgraded Mortar will cost a great deal of gold. And, if you are going to spend 12,560,000 gold upgrading it to level 8, then you will want to make sure that it is fully protected against the enemy. However, when it is fully upgraded, it will do 65 damage to every unit in the area it hits with every shot. Compared to single target attacks, this is unbelievable.

Placement

One of the most popular ways to place mortars and wizard towers is to place them in the center of your base. This way, when the enemy crashes through the wall, they are all compacted together, leading to optimal damage. In addition, people build their own walls around the mortars and wizard towers to provide additional security. With how expensive they can be when fully upgraded, it makes a great deal of sense. As a final note, consider placing your air defenses in the middle of your base as well. Though mass air attacks will rarely happen, they will happen, and you should be prepared.
